Suffolk University offers Ram Academy as an extended transition program for new first-year students. 
Ram Academy is a three-day on campus overnight program that is high impact and experiential, open only to new first year students who will have completed June orientation.

Ram Academy is a UNIQUE way to learn more, go further, & really connect with Suffolk while having fun with other new Rams. Participants will have the ability to customize their experience by choosing a Ram Academy track within the program: Community Engagement & Service, Leadership, Multiculturalism & Social Justice, and Boston Arts & Culture.

Ram Academy participants will:

  • Make friends with other incoming first year students who share similar interests 
  • Have fun, learn, & share in unique experiential environments that encourage self-reflection and team building
  • Learn more about Suffolk's service/community engagement, leadership/involvement, multiculturalism/social justice and, performing arts opportunities 
  • Gain confidence in starting college and joining the Suffolk University community 
  • Get a jump-start ahead of other students not at a Ram Academy by getting instantly involved and finding out what it really means to be a Suffolk student  

Participants must arrive at Suffolk University by 11:45 am on Thursday, August 30th. Residential participants will have the opportunity to begin moving in at 9:00 am.

***Honors Student participants will arrive a day earlier to participate in an Honors Student pre-program and should arrive to campus no later than 4:00 pm on Wednesday, August 29th. Residential participants will have the opportunity to begin moving in at 9:00 am***

Ram Academy participants will stay on campus during the program. Participants who live on campus for Fall 2018 will move into their permanent housing, commuter students will be placed in temporary on campus housing for the duration of the program.

$50.00 deposit fee is required and capacity is limited. The deposit fee will be refunded to students on their Ram Card at the conclusion of the program. Make sure to register early as space in each session is limited and available on a first come first served basis only. Registration will open July 2nd.

At Ram Academy, participants will be joined by experienced student leaders, staff, and fellow first-year students. Choose a program specific to the type of leader you hope to become and the cohort group you hope to learn more about. Details on each specific track are provided in the below tabs:

Boston Arts & Culture Track

Are you excited to explore the arts in Boston during your time at Suffolk?

The Boston Arts & Culture track will jump-start your Boston experience by introducing you to its vibrant arts and culture scene. We will explore museums, attend plays, visit music venues, tour historical neighborhoods, see comedy, and do a little art-making ourselves. Come meet a great group of like-minded students, as well as Suffolk faculty and staff, who are as excited about the Boston arts scene as you are.

Multiculturalism & Social Justice Track

Do you envision a future where you feel empowered to make real difference on important issues, like oppression, racism, LGBTQ+ equality, or gender equity?

The Multiculturalism & Social Justice track will dive into what social action means and looks like and explore activism as a college student. With a focus on building community and connections through social justice, participants will engage in dialogues on equality, access, and equity and will learn skills to find (or amplify) their voices for social, political, and environmental change in our communities.

Emerging Leadership Track

Can we count on you to be the leaders of tomorrow?

The Leadership track provides students with an opportunity to explore personal goal setting, leadership styles, and jump-start their participation in the Journey Leadership Program in an experiential education setting. Participants will learn about their natural leadership abilities, how to work in teams, how to challenge themselves in reaching new goals, and about opportunities for future leadership growth at Suffolk.

Community Engagement & Service Track

 Do you have a passion for service?

The Community Engagement & Service track provides students with the opportunity to explore the City of Boston through a social justice lens. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in several volunteer projects and civic engagement programs with other new students at local community-based organizations. Participating in this Ram Academy presents an opportunity to meet other incoming freshmen with a shared passion for service and leadership in their community. Students will partake in direct service, community building, and interactive discussions which will foster skills in leadership, service, and social justice.
